Chartering & Induction of Phi Pi

Chartering & Induction Ceremony

The Chartering of the Phi Pi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society at Chamberlain College of Nursing

On October 20, 2011, the Chamberlain College of Nursing Honor Society officially became the Phi Pi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society. The gala event was held at the Crowne Plaza in St. Louis, Missouri, home of the original Chamberlain College of Nursing Campus.

For those unable to attend, here are a few memories of those in attendance.

Dr. Ellen Poole, President of the Phi Pi Chapter, introduced Dr. Cathy Catrambone,  Board Chair of the Regional Chapters Coordinating Committee from Sigma.

Dr. Catrambone, served as the presiding officer from Sigma Theta Tau International. She oversaw the chartering, installation of officers, induction of new members, and recognition of  members transferring from other Sigma chapters.  While she had presided over numerous other chartering ceremonies, ours was her first really large event.

Susan Groenwald, President of the Chamberlain College of Nursing (CCN) and Dr. W. Richard Cowling, Vice President of Academic Affairs of CCN offered congratulatory remarks to all.

Phi Pi was chartered with 600 members, though not all were in attendance. The inductees standing on the far left, being recognized by family, friends, and faculty.

Included in the chartering ceremony was the installation of the new officers of the 494th chapter, seen here with Dr. W. Richard Cowling, VPAA of CCN.

Over the past 3 ½ years, many individuals have worked countless hours to bring the College of Nursing Honor Society to this moment of being a chartered chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. Two individuals were specifically honored for their efforts on the behalf of the chapter.

Dr. Ellen Poole, President, recognized Sharon Phelps, Governance Chair, for her years of service and dedication. Ms. Phelps has been instrumental in keeping track of membership lists, and uploading names into the chapter  management system. Additionally, she coordinated the delivery of certificate during and after each induction ceremony.

Dr. Janice Davidson, Vice President/President-Elect, recognized Dr. Ellen Poole, for her years of leadership from a task force to chartered chapter. To commemorate her work, the Phi Pi Board of Directors presented her with a necklace with the Sigma emblem.

Following the ceremony, refreshments featuring a chocolate fountain were available.

Background atmosphere was provided by a local harpist .
