  • Free course information for Sigma members

Good evening to all.  As we have just inducted our largest Sigma member class, I am sending some information forward to new inductees, and old inductees as well! Sigma is offering Surviving Your First Years as a Nurse! This popular CNE course, valued at US $169, is free for members through the Sigma Marketplace. Encourage your fellow members to access this course and the rest of Sigma's free CNE for members. As always, should you have any questions regarding Sigma offerings, please reach out to myself or any Zeta Beta Board Member.  We are always here to assist.  Happy summer all!
    Best regards,
    Laury Westbury

  • Spring Induction 2019

Good day Sigma members.  As stated before, we have a record membership induction this year. The Spring Induction Ceremony will be on Wednesday, April 17th from 7pm-8p at Elmhurst College, Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel.  Because of the large induction, we will withhold from having a guest speaker this year.  Just a friendly reminder that we will be holding the To Err Is Human documentary screening session, this Thursday, March 14th at 5p-7p at Elmhurst College, Schaible Science Building: Illinois Hall.  This is very appropriately being shown during Patient Safety Week.  Have a wonderful week and look forward to seeing you at the upcoming events.

    Best regards,

    Laury Westbury

    Sigma President, Zeta Beta Chapter

  • Sigma Sponsored Event: Documentary Film Screening: To Err is Human

    Good evening Sigma,
Our Chapter will be sponsoring a screening of the documentary film: To Err Is Human by filmmaker Mike Eisenberg on Thursday, March 14th, 2019 from 5p-7p at Elmhurst College: Schaible Science Center: Illinois Hall.
Please join us for a viewing and discussion event highlighting the documentary film
To Err Is Human: inspired by the Institute of Medicine report. The film is a must see for all healthcare professionals and students in healthcare.  The major themes: zero-harm in healthcare, maximizing the gains of patient engagement, and generating benefits from simulation are exemplified within the Sheridan Family story and positive approaches toward patient safety.
The documentary is 77 minutes long, and a forum discussion with attendees will follow. Refreshments will be served.
    Kindly RSVP: laury.westbury@elmhurst.edu

I will email the chapter about Spring Induction once the plans are finalized.  We have the largest member induction to follow this year, thus we are exploring our meeting room options [along with open dates] for this event.  Stay tuned for more information soon.
    Best regards,
    Laury Westbury
    Sigma Zeta Beta Chapter President
  • Fall 2018 Zeta Beta Meeting

Hope the beginning of the fall season finds everyone with crisp thoughts of the beginning of our new academic year, and new possibilities at the Zeta Beta Chapter of Sigma. Last year we had the inauguration of our new members, as well as our new Board members: Kim Pawlowski joined us as the secretary of our chapter, Amanda Lavine-Kelly joined us as the Vice-President  of our chapter, and Molly Taylor joined us as the Governance Chair of our chapter.  As they adjust to the new positions in Zeta Beta, please join us in welcoming our new board members, as we know they will bring some creative excitement to our chapter.

For our first meeting of the year, we are pleased to be joint hosting with two other Sigma Chapters:  The 15th annual Evidence-Based Practice Conference on Saturday, October 20th, 2018 at the Edward Hospital Education Center from 8:30a-1:00p.  The Save the Date information appears below, along with planning information.  Please make sure to contact Peg Cross for registration information.
As an FYI: Our chapter will be divided  between Homecoming events and the Sigma -sponsored event, as this is also the day of Elmhurst College’s Homecoming.  Both events will be quite enriching we are sure.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon, excited for another Sigma year!

Best regards,   Laury Westbury; President Zeta Beta Chapter
