Last weekend, we proudly welcomed 83 nursing students and nurse leaders into Sigma’s Xi‑Kappa‑at‑Large Chapter. We also recognize this year’s Xi-Kappa scholarship recipients: Brenna Held (University of Jamestown), Hannah Hynek (University of Jamestown), Abigayle Johnson (NDSU Bismarck), Jill Johnson (NDSU Bismarck), and Andrew Rasmussen (NDSU Fargo), recipient of the Martha Vorvick Berge Scholarship. A special congratulations to Kolby Schaeffer (NDSU Fargo), recipient of the Excellence in Nursing Education Award. We are proud to celebrate your achievements and look forward to the impact you continue to make in nursing and in your communities.

What is Sigma?
In 1922, six nurses founded Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, today known as Sigma, at the Indiana University Training School for Nurses, which is now the Indiana University School of Nursing, in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. The founders chose the name from the Greek words storgé, thárros, and timé, meaning love, courage, and honor. Sigma became incorporated in 1985 and is a nonprofit organization with a 501(c)(3) tax status in the United States. Learn more about the organization at www.SigmaNursing.org

Membership

Membership is by invitation to baccalaureate and graduate nursing students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship and to nurse leaders who exhibit exceptional achievements in nursing. Sigma has more than 135,000 active members residing in more than 100 countries! There are roughly 540 chapters at more than 700 institutions of higher education and practice settings throughout the world. Xi-Kappa At Large is dedicated to providing a rewarding and unique professional development experience through Sigma membership.

  • Collaboration in Action!

    Carey Haugen and Collette Christoffers attended the Strengthening Healthcare Through Interprofessional Collaboration conference hosted by the North Dakota Nurses Association. This event brought together professionals from multiple disciplines to share knowledge and explore strategies to improve patient care outcomes. Attendees represented healthcare organizations across ND and western MN. In addition to participating in the conference, Haugen and Christoffers hosted an information table for Xi-Kappa at-Large, answering questions about membership, activities, and opportunities for professional development.
