  • Collection for Mission Trip to Swaziland

    The Phi Upsilon Chapter would like to help collect items for Dr. McNeilly (Chapter Faculty Chair) as she leads a medical mission team from Gardner-Webb to Swaziland this summer. If you are able, please consider donating the items listed below for their trip: 

    1.Gloves ( M & L)

    2.Surgical masks

    3.Gauze pads 4X4’s or any size

    5.Thermometers

    6.Urine strips.

    7.Xeroform bandages & Ace bandages

    8.Triple antibiotic ointment

    9. Saline or allergy nasal spray

    10. Ear drops (analgesic, antibiotic)

    11. Eye drops (allergy, saline, antibiotic)

    12. Anti-Fungal cream/ointment

  • 1000 Step Challenge

    Phi Upsilon will be hosting a spring event called the "1000 Step" Challenge. This event is to support the Justice Ministries of Charlotte. This ministry supports victims of human trafficking through outreach, emergency services, and transitional care. 

    The "1000 Step" Challenge will be an obstacle run to raise awareness and obtain sponsors/donations to support the ministry. 

    Mark your calendars for the event: 

    Date: Thursday, April 25th, 2023

    Time: 3 pm

    Location: Meet in room 261 at the College of Health Sciences (Rain or Shine).

    Cost: $5 registration fee at the event and donations are welcomed.

  • Phi Upsilon Chapter- Vice President/President Elect Vote

    Hi all, 

    Mrs. Angel Queen, who is the current vice president/president elect will move into the president role in the Phi Upsilon Chapter this April. The position of vice president/president elect is up for election. 

    A poll has been created for members to vote for candidate(s) who have expressed interest for the role. This individual will serve a two-year term in this role starting April, 2024. In April, 2026, this individual will move into the president role for a two-year term.

    The HSON will be hosting an event in Charlotte on October 27, 2023. Please come out and get more information on our graduate programs that can advance scholarship and research! 

  • Chapter Leadership Opportunity

    Good afternoon everyone! I hope you are having a wonderful day. I wanted to reach out about a leadership opportunity for our Sigma Phi Upsilon members. We will have a position on the leadership board opening up for the next year (starting May, 2024). I will be reaching the end of my term for president in May 2024. Mrs. Angel Queen will be stepping up from the vice president/president elect role to the president role. We are looking for someone interested in fulfilling the vice president/president elect role. I have posted the role description below. If you are interested and would like to be considered, please email me at nbeaver@gardner-webb.edu. 

      • Vice President/President Elect Role
        • Perform the duties of the president in the president's absence.  
        • Be chair of committees, as needed. 

        • Succeed into the office of president and serve until the next election in the event that the president vacates his/her officer during the two-year term. 

        • Prepare an annual report to the chapter membership regarding the vice-president's responsibilities and activities. 

        • Oversee the planning of chapter programs ensuring that at least two programs or events that support the honor society's purposes and goals are held each year. 

        • Will rotate into the president role after 2-years. This is a 4-year term: 2 -years as vice president/president elect and 2 years as president. 
  • Chapter Scholarship

    Hi all! 

    We have reopened the application for the 2023 Phi Upsilon Chapter Scholarship. Please see the chapter's discussion page for the application. Here is some more information about the scholarship:

    • Annually, Phi Upsilon grants a nursing scholarship award.
    • The scholarship is for $250 and if selected, it will be paid directly to the scholarship recipient for Spring 2024 semester.
    • Deadline for applications will be November 30, 2023.
    • The scholarship recipient will be selected based on the merit of materials presented.

  • Scholarship and Research Opportunities

    The Sigma Phi Upsilon chapter is seeking to enhance scholarship opportunities for students. Three of the upcoming available opportunities include:

     

    #1: For a graduating MSN or DNP student who would like to present research/project findings at a conference, Sigma Phi Upsilon will offer financial support to the selected student. (The student must provide registration documentation/proof of acceptance at a conference)

     

    #2: Sigma Phi Upsilon chapter would like to offer a free membership to a non-Sigma Phi Upsilon member who is interested in joining. This offer is directed towards undergraduate students.

     

    #3: Sigma Phi Upsilon chapter would like to offer a free membership to a non-Sigma Phi Upsilon member who is interested in joining. This offer is directed towards graduate students.

  • Fall Service Project St. Jude Winners

    Together we raised $1,110 for St. Jude. Thank you for your support, time, and donations.

    • Sigma Phi Upsilon Chapter Fall Service Project

      The Hunt School of Nursing's chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, Phi Upsilon would like to invite you to participate in our St. Jude's Walk & Run Competition. The Phi Upsilon chapter is holding the event to raise money for St. Jude to join the fight to stop childhood cancer. 

      Everyone loves a little competition... There are two teams that the chapter has created for the event. There is a graduate program team and an undergraduate team. Which team will raise the most money for St. Jude? 

      To participate, you can choose to walk/run in the event or donate. The walk/run event will be held on October 2nd at 9 am. The teams will meet in the faculty parking lot at the College of Health Science.

      In September, supporters in communities across the country will participate in the St. Jude Walk/Run. This exciting, family-friendly event helps raise funds to support the lifesaving mission of St. Jude during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

        • Name will be entered into the drawing 5 times for those who participate by registering to walk/run and donating to a team.

    • Founders Day Service Project

      Susan G. Komen “Race for the Cure” against breast cancer for our service project this fall.  We wanted to invite you ALL to join our team or donate to our team goal of $500.

      • The race is virtual this year so you can walk/run anywhere and anytime you want
      • We are planning to walk as a Sigma group and friends/family tentatively on October 3rd or 4th
      • The cost to join the team is $35 (adult) and $15 (child)
      • Any amount above the registration fee goes towards our team goal
