  • Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing Induction

    We will celebrate our new Delta Omega Chapter members during a special induction ceremony on       
    Sunday March 15, 2020 at 2:00 pm.
    Jean Hower Taber Student Union
     The University of Akron Room 314.

    We look forward to celebrating the accomplishments and academic success of nursing students.
    Awards will be presented to the outstanding graduate and undergraduate students. Additional awards include the Lillian DeYoung Research-Based Knowledge Translation Award and Outstanding Contribution to the Chapter.
    There will be nurses honored for their Excellence in Nursing Leadership, Practice, Education, and Utilization of Research. 
    Please join us to make new friends and renew our friendships.
  • Delta Omega Leadership Opportunities


    Sigma offers members a variety of ways to serve at chapter, regional, and international levels.

    Delta Omega was awarded its 14th Gold Key Award from STTI. Only one other chapter in the WORLD can claim this achievement. The Leadership Succession Committee is preparing the 2020 ballot – we need your leadership and service.

    Delta Omega Chapter of Sigma Nursing Honor Society Community Service Event!

    Who: Volunteers Needed

    What: Help with OPEN-M Hot Lunch

    Where: OPEN-M is at 941 Princeton St., Akron, OH 44311

    When: Friday, February 28, 2020

                          Set up 10-11:30 am 

                          Serve 11:30 am- 1 pm

     Clean up 1-2 pm

    Why: Great opportunity to meet Sigma members, see  what it is all about and help serve our community!

    We would love to have you for any length of time!

    We also asking for donations of:

    • Dessert- cookies, brownies, or cake
    • Paper Products- Dinner plates, dessert plates, cups and plastic utensils

  • 2020 Annual Joint Research conference May 12th

    The Delta Omega, Delta Xi, Pi Chi, and Alpha Mu Chapters of Sigma Theta Tau International Present:


    2020 Annual Research Conference

    Save the Date:  For the evening of Tuesday May 12 at the Kent State University Student Center. This event is open to all nurses and nursing students whether you are a member of Sigma or not.  We look forward to an evening of learning together. 


    Call for Poster Abstracts:  We cordially invite nurses and nursing students to submit abstracts for poster presentations on any topic of relevance to nursing.  Reports of completed or in progress research, evidence-based practice, or quality improvement projects are welcomeThe deadline for submission is 11:59pm on March 13, 2020. We will select 2-4 submissions for oral presentation. Therefore, along with your submission, please note whether you are interested in: Oral presentation, Poster Presentation or either.


    Submission Guidelines: 

    • Email abstracts to: Sandy Knauf at SKnauf@malone.edu or Holly Kibler at Hkibler@malone.edu
    • Please include “Abstract Submission”, “Oral, Poster or Either” and your name in the subject line.
    • Submissions must be received by 11:59 pm on March 13, 2020.
    • Abstracts are limited to 250 words and should contain a title and the following headings: introduction, methods, results, discussion and conclusion. 
    • Submissions must include one learner objective. Identify a measureable outcome which completes the sentence:  “The learner will be able to . . .”.  Objectives are not included in the 250 word limit.

    Abstracts will be blinded for peer review.  Presenters will be notified via email of acceptance decision by March 27, 2020 and must confirm attendance and provide biographical forms by April 10, 2020.  Presenters are responsible for expenses, including registration fees, travel, and lodging.

  • Delta Omega Fall event: On the Table October 1st, 2019

    Sigma Delta Omega Chapter 2019 Fall Event

    Who: The Delta Omega Chapter invites you to Join the Conversation, sponsored by On the Table Greater Akron

    When: Tuesday, October 1, 2019, 5:15-7 pm

    Where: Spaghetti Warehouse, 510 S Main St, Akron OH 44311

    Cost: $10 – this includes a meal selection from the Red or White Trolley Line menu that you order the night of the event.  The Chapter will contribute toward the remaining cost

    What: Last fall during On the Table Greater Akron thousands of community members, including the Delta Omega Chapter, came together at mealtime conversations to discuss potential solutions to the biggest issues facing our community. At that event, Delta Omega addressed the topic of Drugs and Addiction impacting our community

    Why: In 2019 Delta Omega will address Our Aging Seniors in our community, identified as a priority issue by Greater AkronData shows:

    • 23% of Summit County is made of residents 60 and older, by 2030 that number will rise to over 30%
    • An estimated 9,000 seniors (5.9%) fall below the federal poverty level
    • More than half the senior households in Akron are individuals living alone, compared to 41% in the suburbs
    • Suggested Discussion Points: Aging at home, Community awareness of resources, Accessibility, Transportation, Spiritual support, Social isolation, Community engagement, Safety and Security, Caregiving, Health care affordability
    • We are all getting older and as health care providers we can make a difference!

    The Delta Omega Chapter has received Gold key Award recognition in part for their community involvement and their participation in Sigma Founder’s Day event.

    The Chapter will be collecting toothbrushes and toothpaste for Akron’s seniors.
