10-Year Celebration Recording

Hello,

I wanted to share the link for the 10-Year Anniversary Celebration. I want to thank Tia Andrighetti, Mary Borganelli, Vicki Burslem, Dwynn Golden, Angie Mitchell and Trish Voss for sharing stories with us about the founding of the chapter, starting the midwifery program at FNU, and memories of Frontier Nursing Service.

You should have received a calendar invitation and an email, but I wanted to post a reminder on our page also about the meeting tonight!

I hope you are having a good week! I am so excited to let you know that Dr. Tia Andrighetti, Dr. Mary Borganelli, Dr. Vicki Burslem, and Dr. Dwynn Golden have confirmed that they will be with us on Wednesday night to share stories about Frontier Nursing University and Chi Pi! I did send a calendar invitation to you, and I am including the Zoom link below.

If you are a charter member or a former officer for Chi Pi, we would love for you to share your stories if you can attend the meeting. If you cannot attend, we would still love to connect with you to find a way to share your stories with the chapter.

Fall 2025 Scholarship Opportunity

Chi Pi Scholarship Announcement Fall 2025

The Board of the Chi Pi Chapter is pleased to announce that the chapter will accept applications for scholarships for students currently enrolled in a FNP, WHNP, PMHNP, CNEP, or DNP program. You may be enrolled in an APRN education program at Frontier Nursing University or another accredited program. You must be a current member of the Chi Pi Chapter of Sigma.

Amount of Awards

FNP Student $500 CNEP Student $500

WHNP Student $500 DNP Student $500

PMHNP Student $500

Important Dates

Applications Open: Wednesday, November 5, 2025

Application Due: Sunday, November 30, 2025, at 11:59 PM

Scholarship Winners Notified: On or around December 12, 2025

Funds Sent Via Check to Winners: On or around December 19, 2025

Application Process

Please write a 250-400 word essay on your goals and aspirations as they relate to your education, career, and future plans. Explain why you are a qualified candidate and should be considered for the scholarship. Essays will be considered based on the following elements: 1) leadership and contributions to the profession of nursing; 2) community service and volunteerism; 3) clinical interests and goals.

AI should not be used to write the essay, and the use of AI will disqualify the application.

Please include the following information in the first paragraph of your essay: 1) your current GPA; 2) the name of the school you are attending; 3) the program designation (FNP, WHNP, CNEP, PMHNP, DNP); 4) your Sigma membership number at date that your membership will expire.

Please submit the essay as a pdf attachment. Word or Google Docs can be used, but a pdf is preferred.

Please send a current unofficial transcript to verify your GPA. Please see the GPA requirements in the rubric.

Incomplete applications and applications received after the due date will not be reviewed.

The essays will be scored by 2 reviewers who are members of the Chi Pi Board. The rubric found below will be used for scoring.

Dr. Keefe Awarded Summer 2025 Travel Grant

Summer Research Travel Grant Opportunity

Hello,

The Chi Pi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau is excited to announce that we will be offering research travel grants for 2025. Three travel grants will be awarded for the summer term. The purpose of the travel grants it to support the presentation of your research as a podium or poster presentation at a scholarly meeting. The amount of each grant is $500. The grants will be awarded as follows:

1 travel grant award for a current FNU student

1 travel grant award for an alumnus of FNU

1 travel grant award for faculty of any school of nursing

Eligibility Criteria

You must be a current member of the Chi Pi Chapter to apply for the travel grant. You may only receive one scholarship or travel grant per calendar year. If application scores are equal, the applicant with the greatest cost that is not covered by their employer or another sponsor will be considered.

How to Apply

Please use the link below to access the application. It is best to write the required statements in a Word document or Google Doc then paste the information into the application.

For the summer 2025 research travel grant, the application is due August 29, 2025, at 11:59 PM. Notification of award will be on approximately September 12, and disbursement of the award will be approximately September 26.

Delegates to Biennial Convention Named

Chi Pi will have two chapter delegates for the Biennial Convention in Indianapolis, IN. Dr. Torica Fuller and Dr. Angie Mitchell will serve as the delegates for the business meeting. The dates of the convention are November 8-12, 2025. The chapter is supporting the registration and travel for both delegates to this event as approved by the board.

In addition, Dr. Charlotte Swint and Dr. Kelsey Kent have been selected to present a podium presentation at the meeting. If you are planning to attend the convention or have had an abstract presented, please let Charlotte know. It would be great for chapter members to get together in Indianapolis!

Membership Meeting May 20-- Current and Prospective Members are Invited!

I wanted to invite you to our upcoming membership meeting on May 20, 2025, at 7 PM. Dr. Alex Hodges from East Carolina will be discussing "The Climate-Health Connection: Nursing Leadership in a Changing World." Please see her bio below. I did send a calendar invite with the Zoom link a couple of weeks ago.

Dr. Alex Hodges is an experienced family nurse practitioner in primary care in rural Eastern NC and a Clinical Professor and Assistant Chair at East Carolina University College of Nursing. Her clinical practice serves the underserved population of Eastern NC in Dare County. A climate change expert collaborating with Harvard and Americares, Dr. Hodges has helped develop education tools utilized nationwide and was one of the pilot clinics developing this valuable information. She was a panelist at the American Health Equity Summit in 2021 and a panelist at the 2022 Boston Globe Climate Week.

Travel Grants Update

Hello,

I wanted to let you know that we did not have any applications for the travel grants. The Chi Pi board voted to donate the money that would have been awarded for the travel grants ($1500) to the Leslie County Community Foundation to support relief efforts for the flooding that occurred there recently.
