Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death for women. Today, more than 60 million women are living with CVD and are more likely than men to die from a heart attack and to develop heart failure in the five years after discharge from the hospital. In the United States, Black women have a higher prevalence of developing and dying from CVD than non-Black women. My mom died from a cardiac arrest because I didn't know the symptoms were different than men. She presented with stomach issues that we attributed to "gas".
We can help prevent this from happening to other women, particularly Black and Brown women by donating to the AHA Go Red for Women and educating the public. PLEASE Join Us!
