President's Message

Sandra Nolan PhD, RN, CNE, BC-AHN

Hello everyone,
My name is Sandi Nolan, and I am honored to serve as your new Chapter President, following in the footsteps of Cat Lawless. I have been a proud member of Sigma Theta Tau since 2006, and I’m excited to take on this leadership role for the first time. My goal is to keep you informed and engaged with the latest chapter updates, events, and opportunities to connect.

Last spring, we proudly partnered with Delaware Technical Community College and became the Beta Xi at large chapter, and together we continue to strengthen and grow our chapter. As of June 2025, our new officers have officially begun their terms. I’m delighted to introduce our President-Elect, Kelly Davis, who will assume the presidency in Spring 2027, and our Vice President, Emma Okonowicz, who is already doing an incredible job in her new role.

We also welcome our four Nurse Leader Interns: Lillian Whitesell, Chloe Hickman, Ashley Cooke, and Brynn Johnson, who are all off to a fantastic start!

We kicked off the year with a September meeting followed by a wonderful Founders Day Celebration on October 7th. Looking ahead, we have an exciting calendar filled with opportunities for learning, networking, and service. Please mark your calendar for our next Membership Meeting on November 3rd at 6PM, which will be held in person at McDowell Hall and via Zoom for those joining remotely. I hope to see you there!

Our chapter is also preparing for representation at Convention, where we will proudly accept the Key Award once again, an achievement that reflects the hard work and dedication of our amazing members. We look forward to bringing that excitement back to share with all of you.

As always, stay connected for service opportunities, announcements, and chapter news through the Circle, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. We value your feedback and ideas, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or any of our chapter leaders.

  • Beta Xi Annual Holiday Outreach Collection

    The holiday season is here and Beta Xi is excited to begin our Annual Holiday Outreach Collection in support of Upper Bay Counseling & Support Services. Upper Bay provides a full spectrum of mental health services, including custodial care for 40 adults living with severe and persistent mental illness through their residential program. This year proudly marks our 24th year partnering together to brighten the holidays for these clients.

    To help fulfill each resident’s individual wishes, Upper Bay has created Amazon Wish Lists for each residential living site. Each list includes items specifically requested by the clients. When you purchase a gift, it will be shipped directly to Upper Bay in Elkton, Maryland, where Beta Xi members will wrap and prepare everything for holiday delivery.

  • Beta Xi Membership Appreciation - Oct 7th

    Hello Beta Xi!

    This year's Membership Appreciation will be held on Tuesday, October 7th, 2025 at Deer Park Tavern in Newark, DE from 5-7pm. The address is 108 W Main St, Newark, DE. This is a time to celebrate you, our amazing members! This event is FREE and includes food, drinks, and tons of fun!

    If you plan on attending this event, please consider bringing full-sized personal hygiene items to donate. This includes shampoo, deodorant, small soaps or liquid soaps, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrush, dental floss, hairbrush, combs, etc.

    Thank you so much for being a part of this community! We hope to see you all at Deer Park on October 7th!
