Chapter President's Message

September 25, 2026

Dear Members and Applicants,

Following recent concerns and discussions regarding events involving the national leadership of Sigma Theta Tau, we would like to inform you that the current call for Sigma membership applications has been placed on hold.

As nursing professionals and academic leaders, we are committed to fostering an environment grounded in respect, equity, inclusion, and professionalism. We do not take concerns related to racism, discrimination, or bias lightly. Such matters are inconsistent with the values that guide our profession and our commitment to creating welcoming, respectful, and supportive environments for all individuals.

Until additional clarification is available, we believe that pausing the application process is in the best interest of our students and community. Our chapter remains committed to the core values of leadership, scholarship, service, diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.

We will continue to monitor developments involving Sigma Theta Tau and will provide updates regarding future membership opportunities as soon as additional information becomes available.

Thank you for your understanding and continued commitment to our shared values.

Sincerely,

Elsie Jolade, DNP, Ed.M, FNP-BC, ACNS, APRN, CCRN, FAAN.

President, Alpha Phi Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing
