Teresa Chahine’s career in psychiatry evolved over the past 25 years from being part of a small team of nurses in a walk in emergency setting. She proceeded to become part of the psychiatric consult service at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital promoting mental health of individuals and families who are experiencing physical illness (es) and or injury. By addressing the biopsychosocial aspects of care, patient outcomes have improved along with a decrease in length of stay.
Teresa treats a broad age range from late adolescence through adulthood. She applies resilience, narrative and creative therapy to her treatment modalities. She also has a strong knowledge base in psycho-pharmacology and elder neurocognitive disorders. Teresa is an expert in diagnostics and crisis treatment. She treats patients with comorbid medical and psychiatric conditions, and is vigilant about side effect profiles and drug to drug interactions.
She is also invested in nursing education and currently holds a full time faculty position with Oakland University. Prior she held a position as adjunct faculty at Oakland Community College for 4 years. She is a guest speaker for community organizations, academic programs, student groups and healthcare organizations. She enjoys challenging aspects of nursing, education and leadership in which she provides encouragement, motivation, and enthusiasm along with a compassionate approach to the healthcare profession. She takes pride in being influential in shaping the minds of others regarding nursing values and to encourage a positive perception of health care in general.
The focal point her professional practice is primary prevention. She also views the capability of being proactive and having a positive approach to providing patient care, managing and fostering change as essential to building a well respected practice and promoting service excellence.
