    Apr 1, 04:00 PM - 05:30 PM (UTC)
Join us for an Engaging and Informative Webinar on Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) in Interprofessional Education (IPE) for Undergraduate Healthcare Students! In recent years, healthcare education across Europe has seen a growing focus on Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) , with patients becoming active partners in the learning process for future healthcare professionals. This webinar will explore the transformative potential of integrating PPI into Interprofessional Education (IPE) , where students from diverse healthcare disciplines collaborate alongside patients to foster a deeper, patient-centered approach to care. We will highlight innovative educational programs that have successfully incorporated PPI, demonstrating how these initiatives enhance learning outcomes and better prepare students to provide holistic, patient-focused care. During this session, we will delve into the benefits and challenges of implementing PPI-based interprofessional education. While these programs have been shown to improve communication, promote teamwork, and enhance the patient experience, they also present unique logistical, cultural, and institutional challenges. We will provide actionable insights on how to overcome these hurdles and implement effective PPI strategies within educational frameworks. In addition, participants will be introduced to leading global and European organizations at the forefront of PPI and IPE. You will gain practical guidance on the essential steps required to initiate or enhance similar programs at your own institution, empowering you to take a leadership role in promoting patient-centered education. Whether you are an educator, healthcare professional, or student, this webinar will equip you with the tools and knowledge to make a meaningful impact in healthcare education. Expected Learning Outcomes: 1. Identify and describe successful educational programs in Europe that promote the interaction between students from different disciplines and patients as partners. 2. Discuss the key benefits and challenges associated with implementing PPI-focused interprofessional education programs. 3. Recognize leading organizations globally and in Europe that champion PPI in healthcare education, and understand the steps required to launch similar initiatives at your institution.

  • Southern Ohio Northern/Kentucky-Indiana (SONK-I) CONSORTIUM 2026 ANNUAL CONFERENCE

    Mar 27, 09:00 AM - 03:00 PM (ET)
The Missing Science of Physical Assessment: A Return to the Fundamentals of Nursing Practice March 27, 2026, 9 AM to 3 PM Sharonville Convention Center   Keynote Speaker Dr. Shannan Hamlin , Associate Professor of Nursing, Academic Institute, Director, Center for Nursing Research, Education and Practice, Houston Methodist Call for Podium Abstracts The SONK-I Consortium Committee invites Sigma nurses to submit a podium abstract that reflects the theme of the 2026 SONK-I Consortium Annual Conference. Many family members and healthcare providers are sharing that the importance of laboratory results, scans, early warning systems, and other diagnostic tests has taken preeminence over the physical assessment or physical examination. In fact, the hands-on assessment, although taught, is frequently not performed in the practice setting. The importance and necessity of returning to basics of nursing practice including its relationship to patient satisfaction, clinical outcomes and nursing liability is the theme of this conference. If you have a 20-minute or 50-minute presentation of a completed research study, quality improvement project or EBP project related to this theme, please consider submitting an abstract to Dr. Karen O’Connell at oconnellk@nku.edu . Abstract Guidelines The abstract must be the author or author(s) own work and must address the theme of the conference. Research studies, quality improvement projects, or EBP projects must be completed work. Use Microsoft Word, 12 font, Ariel or Times Roman, 1-inch margins, double-spaced and limited to 500 words (about 1.6 pages). Include the following headings: Title Background Methods Results Summary References (not counted in word limitation) Also include: Author(s) credentials, institution, position, contact information Submission Date: October 1, 2025

Kind regards, Terri Chairse Vice President Lambda Lambda Chapter VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS  Volunteer(s) should arrive at a KidneyMobile® screening approximately 30-45 minutes prior to the scheduled time of the event. (ALL Volunteers will be trained at their work stations on the day of the screening)  Volunteer(s) should wear business casual clothing or scrubs (no blue jeans).  Volunteer(s) should arrive at the event or screening ready to work.  Volunteer(s) will be given an assignment to do at screening station, assist with the flow of traffic at the screenings and/or assist in other areas. A VOLUNTEER WILL BE ASKED TO PARTICIPATE IN ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:  Registration: Assist the participants with completing a questionnaire on the laptop computers. (Volunteer should be able to type information on laptop/computer) (2-3 Volunteers Needed)  Blood Pressure: The pressure of the blood against the walls of the blood vessels, especially the arteries. Untreated and/or undiagnosed high blood pressure can cause kidney disease. Normal blood pressure is below 120/80. (Volunteer must feel comfortable administering blood pressures without using the automatic cuffs) (2 Volunteers Needed)  Blood Glucose: This finger prick is used to assess how much glucose (sugar) is in your blood. Diabetics and others may have an HbA1c test that provides a 3-month ‘snapshot’ of the amount of sugar attached to red blood cells. (Volunteer must be able to prick the finger using a small amount of blood) (2 Volunteers Needed)  Body Mass Index (BMI) & Waist Circumference: Body Mass Index (BMI) is the relation of height to weight, and waist circumference is a simple measurement of the waist. Obesity can cause diabetes and cardiovascular complications. (Volunteer should assist the participants when they are stepping on the scale, and they use a measuring tape to get the participants waist size) (2-4 Volunteers Needed)  Urinalysis: A urine sample determines if there is an infection or if there are microscopic amounts of protein present. This can be an early sign of kidney disease, sometimes referred to as “spilling protein”. (Volunteer will use a dipstick to place in the urinalysis machine to see the levels of protein in the participant’s urine) (4-5 Volunteers Needed)  Blood Draw: A blood draw provides information on serum Creatinine and eGFR, an estimation of kidney function. (Volunteer must be a licensed phlebotomist that has been performing blood draws on individuals within the last 2-3 months) If you are unable to provide a licensed Phlebotomist, the NKFI will have one on hand. (1 Volunteer Needed)  Private Consultation: The NKFI wants to make sure they understand their screening results and important next steps to better their health. Each participant will have a private consultation at the end of the screening where they will receive their individual test results. If you are unable to provide someone for consultations, an NKFI staff member will go over the participant’s results and print a copy for their file(s). (Volunteer must be a doctor, nurse, nurse practitioner or trained health care professional) (1-2 Volunteers Needed) Volunteers are asked not to leave screening stations unattended, and are asked not to participate in the screenings unless otherwise requested!
