World Health Day honors nurses on the frontlines
Each year there is a specific theme for World Health Day. The is to support nurses and midwives. During the year WHO chose "Year of the Nurse and Midwife," Nu Upsilon honored the contribution which nurses and midwives are making as they make the world a healthier place.
"Nurses are the unsung heroes of the Covid-19 response. The invaluable role they have played is testimony of their sacrifice, courage and commitment to a healthier and safer world," said Takeshi Kasai, WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific.

'Not everyone can do this job'
Wazlavek says that for now, her hospital has enough gloves, masks and gowns to keep her relatively safe.
"For how long though?" she wonders out loud. "What happens if they don't? Do I go to work, put my life, my family's lives, at risk even more than I already am? Or do I leave the hospital and patients to fend for themselves?"
Wazlavek does not consider herself a hero. But for people who want to honor her sacrifice and grit, she has one suggestion: stay home.
WHO is honoring the Nurses and other health workers who are putting their own health at risk to protect the broader community at the forefront of COVID-19 response. Sincere thanks to all of our amazing nurses! Watch for webinars and opportunities on the Sigma website. Nurse leaders are needed now more than ever! #NursesStrong #SigmaStrong
Care Packages to NYC ... #nuupsilonCares
Many prayers for everyone that you remain safe during this COVID-19 crisis. Nu Upsilon members recently came together to create care packages for those on the front lines in New York City. The packages contained protein shakes, soup, applesauce, hand lotion, lip balm, blankets and more, along with this letter:
"To Our Beloved Nursing Colleagues:
On behalf of the members of Nu Upsilon Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, located at Grand Canyon University, we want to say a sincere thank you to all of you for your dedication, bravery and compassion as you treat the thousands of victims of COVID-19.
As a small token of our appreciation, we would like to present you with this Care Package and hope these items will brighten your day.
We hope that as you use these items, remember that the nursing faculty and student members of Nu Upsilon are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers as we give thanks for your service and pray for your safety.
When the history of this terrible pandemic is told in the months and years to come, it will be people like you who will inspire others to join the nursing profession and provide the best care and comfort possible to those who need us the most.
Thank you again and God bless you.
