Kappa Theta awards are presented to recognize outstanding members whose contributions are aligned with the mission and goals of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI). Nominees must be an active member of STTI for all awards EXCEPT “Friend of Nursing.
Please submit your nominations for each award to Dr. Liz Sturgeon (liz.sturgeon@wku.edu) before June 3, 2022.
Nominees will be required to submit their resume/CV and a one-page cover letter addressing the specific award criteria except for the Friend of Nursing nominees. Kappa Theta’s Leadership team will review the materials and vote for the award recipients. Recipients will be announced at the annual meeting on June 21, 2022.
The awards include the following categories and requirements:
Excellence in Research
- Conducts and disseminates nursing research.
- Writes scholarly works related to nursing theory and/or nursing research.
- Exhibits a sustained record of nursing research activities.
Excellence in Education
- Demonstrates excellence in teaching.
- Displays the use of creative and evidence-based teaching strategies.
- Influences the professional practice of nursing and the public’s image of nursing through excellence in teaching.
Excellence in Nursing Practice
- Demonstrates breadth of knowledge in the area of clinical nursing practice.
- Advances the scope and practice of nursing.
- Serves as an inspirational mentor/preceptor to colleagues/students in the practice of nursing.
Leadership
- Receives local, national, and/or international recognition as a nursing leader in education, practice, administration, and/or research.
- Creates an environment that enhances the image of the nursing profession.
- Participates in the development of nursing leaders.
Mentorship
- Actively shapes and promotes the career of a nurse or the development of a chapter.
- Freely shares personal resources for individual or chapter growth and development.
Donna Blackburn Service
- Demonstrates an ongoing record of service to their community and the nursing profession.
Outstanding Student Performance –Undergraduate and Graduate
- Demonstrates excellence in clinical, academics, creativity, research, and/or leadership.
Friend of Nursing (not a nursing professional)
- Significantly influences the chapter, the local nursing or health care community, and/or the health of individuals.
- Demonstrates superior achievements and leadership in their profession or vocation.
- Contributes to the long-term goals of the chapter, nursing profession, and/or individual health.
