  • Iota Sigma Big and Good news!!

    Hello chapter members!

Your Iota Sigma chapter is very excited to announce the following items of good news:

On behalf of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma), we are pleased to inform you that the [International] Board of Directors has overwhelmingly voted to induct your nominee, Koy Parada, APU SON Assistant Professor and Coordinator, International and Urban/Rural Health Nursing as an Honorary Member. Honorary non-nursing status is conferred by the Board on those who demonstrate superior achievement in a chosen field and a commitment to the ideals and concerns of nursing. Honorary Members will be officially recognized at Sigma's 47th Biennial Convention, 11-15 November 2023, in San Antonio, TX USA.

For more information regarding the 47th Biennial Convention, please visit SigmaNursing.org/Convention.

Congratulations Koy! You certainly deserve this. To our knowledge, Iota Sigma has not had an honorary non-nursing member awarded at the International Level, ever. We do now!

A second announcement regards the recognition of Karen Erisman, APU SON Alumni Director of Outreach and Alumni Professional Relations, as a Friend of Nursing Award, a local chapter award. Congratulations, Karen!

Both individuals are going above and beyond in their respective roles. Karen, via purposeful collaborations with the Iota Sigma chapter networking with APU alumni in providing free Continuing Education Units for chapter members. In addition Karen provides additional outreach for potential new chapter membership through FAITH TOGETHER that is designed to infuse faith into nursing practice. Koy through her Public Health role and extensive community collaborations and efforts including our future nurses in the community, along with teaching in the APU SON program (traditional and masters level).  We are so grateful to both as a chapter.

Both honorees will be recognized at our Iota Sigma Chapter Spring Induction on April 1st in Upper Turner Campus Center, East Campus, 10 AM. Please monitor your email and The Circle for Induction RSVP details.
