International was very pleased with the photo shoot they conducted on campus on April 17th. Thank you to all who participated!
· We also had a good turnout for the ice cream social on April 17th-lots of nursing students stopped in before and after (or during) class. It seemed to be mostly undergrads, hopefully we can continue to work on ways to attract grad students to future events (and nurse leaders!)
· The Spring dinner on April 23rd was great! We had an amazing panel of speakers who provided a lot of insight into how we can make a difference. Kate Voss from SENSE charter school was very happy with the donations we provided to their pantry, and I think we were able to make some connections for other things that can be done to help the school (for example, Cindy was discussing a policy brief to help them lobby regarding the environmental lead in the neighborhood, and I was able, via the director of our Public Health program, to help connect them to someone in the State Department of Health who will be organizing sharps containers to combat the issue of used needles being found on their playground). It might be of interest for you to hear that SENSE was also awarded as an Outstanding Community Partner at the UIndy Service-Learning banquet last week.
We provided 10 volunteers (members and students) for the Black Barbershop Health Initiative last week, out of a total 25 people who volunteered! Several shops would not have been able to run screenings without us-thank you everyone who volunteered! Still waiting for final numbers of people screened from the Commission, but I know we did some great teaching at my shop on preventative health.
Even though April was a very busy month, I hope everyone gets some time to relax over the coming weeks. Thank you all for all you do!
