The Sigma Mu Phi Chapter grant is a competitive award of $1000 designed to assist a novice or seasoned nurse researcher who is either a Mu Phi Chapter member or an eligible member (eligible with a letter of intent to join the chapter). Chapter Board members are not eligible to apply. Dues must be current before the award distribution. This year, the chapter is offering two $1000 grants.
General Guidelines: Using APA format, the applicant must electronically submit two versions of the proposal to the Mu Phi Chapter Research Committee: one with and one without identifying information on the title page. The proposal must be received no later than July 20, 2025
Proposal guidelines: The narrative section of the proposal is limited to a maximum of five (5) single spaced pages and should include the following:
1.Purpose
2.Significance and background
3.Hypothesis or research questions
3.Theoretical framework
4.Review of the literature
6.Methodology
7.Proposed data analysis
8.Time frame
9.Budget and justification
Please indicate whether previous funding has been awarded to this project.
Also, please attach a copy of the IRB/Research Committee approval letter(s) to your proposal. Or, if not applicable, please indicate this with an explanation.
Criteria for judging proposals:
1.Relevance to nursing
2.Clarity of written proposal
3.Feasibility of the study
4.Overall quality
Priority will be given to research efforts that have not been previously funded.
One-year-status report: The award recipient must present a status report of his/her research to the Sigma Mu Phi Chapter within one year of receiving the award and is expected to do a podium presentation during the 2026 Sigma Mu Phi Chapter Research day.
The research scholarship will be presented to the winner at the 2025 Sigma Mu Phi research day on October 1, 2025 at KSU center, 3333 Busbee Dr NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144
