The Life of a nurse
(written by Dr Liz Westcott, President)
The Life of a nurse
Is always exceptional
There is joy and there is heartache
But they remain sceptical
Of people who tell them it’s only a vocation
‘So why dear do you need a degree’
The life of a nurse
Is challenging and rewarding
There is triumph and passion
But it’s also degrading
To hear ‘so why dear do you need a degree’
The life of a nurse
Is never ending learning
There are research and publications
And an unending yearning
‘So why dear do you need a degree’
The life of a nurse
Is exhausting and frustrating
Its taxing and demanding
And often discouraging
‘so why dear do you need a degree’
The life of a nurse
Is certainly no power trip
Its hard work and grafting
And requires superb leadership
‘so why dear do you need a degree’
The life of a nurse
Lives in the present and values the past
And has anticipation skills unsurpassed
They are game changers and leaders
And movers and shakers
They pioneer patient care
And are policymakers everywhere
They never question the need for a degree
