  • Violence against nurses, Alpha Alpha Beta and Italian Universities in the field: cease-it study

    According to an Italian, 89% of nurses were victims of violence during their professional life: about 239,000, of which 180,000 were female nurses. And for over 130,000 (58%) it was a physical assault.

    Of all assaults on healthcare personnel according to INAIL data, 46% are nursing and 6% to doctors (nurses are often the first professionals to intercept people who turn to services and therefore the most subject). So there are about 5,000 assaults on nurses in a year (although verbal assaults are often not even reported), 13-14 a day on average.

    For this reason, since December 1, 2020, thanks to the co-funding of the National Federation of the Order of Nurses FNOPI, the multicenter national study on violence aimed at Italian nurses in the workplace (ViolenCE AgainSt nursEs In The workplace CEASE-IT) has started.


    Promoters of the study Annamaria Bagnasco Full Professor of Nursing Sciences in the Department of Health Sciences of the University of Genoa and Loredana Sasso President of Italia Alpha Alpha Beta, a chapter of Sigma. Nine Italian universities represented by the professors referents of the Disciplinary Scientific Sector of general clinical and paediatric nursing sciences have joined the study.
