A
bout the Alpha Kappa Chapter-at-Large
The chapter welcomes you as a member. The Alpha Kappa Chapter-at-Large includes members who are nurse leaders from the community and nursing students from University of Colorado College of Nursing, Anschutz Medical Campus and Regis University, Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions Loretta Heights School of Nursing, and will welcome the newest addition of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences of the Colorado Christian University.

Nurse leaders from the surrounding health systems enjoy the honor of membership. We are growing with a Charter Amendment Ceremony that welcomes Metro State University School of Nursing.  Watch for more information about the Charter Amendment Ceremony scheduled in Spring 2014.

From the Alpha Kappa Chapter-at-Large President

During the 2012-13 year, the Alpha Kappa Chapter at Large welcomed Colorado Christian University School of Nursing.

The Colorado Christian University Division of Nursing was approved by the Sigma Theta Tau International board of directors to join the Alpha Kappa Chapter at Large of the Honor Society of Nursing. Sixty-five nurse leaders and students were inducted as new members of this group.

The Alpha Kappa Chapter-at-Large of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, amended its charter by adding the School of Nursing and Health Sciences of the Colorado Christian University on April 1st at 5:30 PM (MTN). The ceremony was held at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus. Dean Barbara White, EdD, CNS, RN of the Colorado Christian University Division of Nursing shared remarks. The Chartering Officer Cathy Catrambone, PhD, RN, FAAN, Vice President of Sigma Theta Tau Internationall conducted the charter amendment ceremony with the assistance of the Chapter President Teresa Sakraida, PhD, RN.

The AK-STTI board meets every month. In October, we have a Fall Program with a guest speaker and a short business meeting.

This year there are several initiatives:

We are focusing upon membership renewal. The chair of the Membership Committee is engaged in contacting past members to encourage renewal.

We are focusing on the Bylaws since it is a Biennium year. This means that the delegates at the convention will keep us informed about Bylaw changes from the national office.

We are preparing a better email service with greater opportunity for email information to the membership.

We are preparing for the Chartering Amendment Ceremony to honor and welcome Metro State University School of Nursing.

If you are looking for an opportunity to volunteer, we are in need of an Archivist. This position is an important one that allows us to maintain a record of our history. Please contact Teresa Sakraida or any board member to indicate your interest.

With Regards,
Teresa Sakraida, President
