  • April's Month of Service: Tackling Pollution and Protecting Our Planet

Our April Month of Service Incorporates Global Goal #13 and Call to Action Care of the Environment:

Switching to reusable options is a simple yet powerful way to address the growing issue of plastic pollution. Tiny fragments called microplastics are increasingly polluting our environment—from the oceans and soil to the air we breathe. Research shows that humans may consume tens of thousands of these particles annually through food and water. By choosing sustainable alternatives like reusable bottles and containers, you reduce waste and lead by example, encouraging others to make similar changes.

Even small, everyday actions can add up to make a big difference. Sharing your eco-friendly habits with family and friends helps spread awareness and inspires others to join the effort. Together, these combined efforts create a ripple effect that contributes to a healthier planet for future generations.

  • A World Apart, United by Sigma

Dr. Christine Platt RN MSN, FNP, DNP, PhD
President of our sister chapter, Iota Iota

SIGMA Nurse Research Presenter did a fantastic job encouraging our new inductees and lighting a fire under our current members. In her speech, she expressed how, as a young nursing student in St. Paul, she overestimated her readiness for the trauma unit and saw asking for help as a weakness. As she put it, a wise nurse manager enrolled her in a class called Self-Defeating Habits of Otherwise Brilliant People, which became a turning point in her career. She also spoke about learning that true brilliance is not about knowing everything but humility, recognizing self-defeating tendencies, and embracing lifelong learning. This lesson guided her in helping patients and collaborating with others. Sigma Theta Tau reflects these values, fostering a community where nurses support each other with love, courage, and honor.
