Jim here, retired from federal service in 2018 (Department of Veterans Affairs.) Active in LGBT health care since the 1980"s. Original training was oncology and ICU, morphed into more public health focus with emergence of HIV in early 1980's. Grad school focus was on psych/mental health in catastrophic illness. Charter member and past National President of Association of Nurses i AIDS Care (
ANAC.) Convened first international meeting of nurses to define essential HIV nursing curricula at the 1992 IAS conference in Amsterdam. On faculty at Univ of TX School of Public Health worked on HRSA funded program to research, implement, and evaluate essential content and strategies to train HIV care providers. Created
Project LEAP to promote capacity of PLWHIV to participate in community planning, a model program
still in operation after over 25 years. In mid-1990's served at American Nurses Foundation as Project Manager, SAMHSA funded HIV/AIDS Education for Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurses project to develop and implement national curriculum and training in HIV care targeting Psych/MH nurses. In private sector, developed first commercially viable HIV Disease Management program to increase detection, improve treatment and enhance outcomes. Served as HIV National Quality Manager with VA, the largest provider of HIV care in the country. Retired from position as Deputy Chief Consultant for Strategy and Planning in Population Health with VA. Extensive experience with informatics, including implementation of world's largest clinical database on HIV and HepC as well as EHR generated care prompts. Served as VA representative to IOM work group on capture of SOGI data in EHR systems, worked with national colleagues on development of
VA's model LGBTQ+ health program. In retirement working with medical students learning clinical skills.

Hello Sigma Members! Thanks for being a part of Sigma's LGBTQ+ Health community, and for contributing to the important discussions taking place.
I'd like to introduce you to the group's facilitators who will ensure there is a regular conversation for you to participate in regarding LGBTQ+ health care in nursing:
@Erik McIntosh is a Nurse Practitioner at Rush University Medical Center in the Department of Hospital Medicine and is an Assistant Professor at the Rush University College of Nursing. Dr. McIntosh is a graduate of Rush University's DNP program Transformative Leadership: Population Health, where he focused on LGBTQ health and health provider education, and is a graduate of George Washington University's post-graduate certificate program in LGBTQ Health Policy and Practice.
@Katie Fasullo is a board certified gerontological nurse with her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Advanced Public Health Nursing from Rush University College of Nursing. Dr. Fasullo is passionate about the health and wellness of LGBTQ older adults and serves as the Corporate Director of Population Health and Health Equity at Chicago Methodist Senior Services, where she is focused on creating an environment for older adults where inclusion and support of LGBTQ individuals is the gold standard
