How to Join

Thank you for your interest in Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma).

To join our chapter as a Nurse Leader, the following criteria must be met: 

Nurse Leader candidates must:

  • Be legally recognized to practice nursing in their country
  • Have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree or the equivalent in any field
  • Demonstrate achievement in nursing
Demonstrating achievement in nursing will be evaluated on the categories of scholarship, leadership, and service/practice. Evidence supporting the achievement categories are included in the list below, but are not limited to: 

Scholarship
Leadership Service/Practice
Evidence-based practice or quality improvement projects focused on practice, patient, or system level work Chairing an organizational committee Community outreach and relief work

Participating in the Professional
Nurse Development Program (PNDP)
/ Clinical Ladder Programs (APP)

Leading organizational or local level committees Developing and participating in projects aimed at promoting resilience and overall health improvement for nurses
Research grants
EBP Fellowships
Board or committee member for professional organizations or community associations Providing exemplary leadership as an active member in shared governance or local improvement teams
Conducting research Engaging in health policy or
advocacy work
Developing and participating in mentoring programs
Dissemination of EBP and Research findings (conference presentations, local professional chapters, publishing) Leading or facilitating improvement work Developing and participating in nurse residency programs/ Advanced Practice Fellowship Programs
Developing or designing educational programs/models that influence nursing education Serving as an external consultant or reviewer (accreditation, program consultant)
Recognized as an expert in the field/specialty in nursing (certification)
